The Catcher In the Rye:

I just finished "The Catcher in the Rye" by J. D. Salinger and I found it fascinating! Holden Caulfield, the main character, is so fascinatingly pessimistic. But he is pessimistic in a strangly optimistic way. He is crazy - acctually the whole book is crazy. You should experience it on your own.
Don't go reading "The Sorrows of Young Werther" or anything like that right after "the Catcher" though...try and break it up with some feel good-litterature. Eeeerhm. I'm realizing as I'm writing this that I am not following my own advice! I was planning to start "1984" now, haha! Maybe not the best choice I could've made, but aw well...

As I had finished "The Catcher In the Rye" I googled it just to read up on Salinger and so on and suddenly I found myself on this site called SparkNotes. I read in the original post on the Summer Reading Race List-thread that reading about a book on SparkNotes didn't count. Up until now I haven't even known what SparkNotes was but now I understand.
I ended up leaving the site almost a bit upset... It felt like they cut up the book AND Holden Caulfield as if he was some frog they where dissecting in a classroom. I'm sure he wouldn't have liked it. They had examples of quotes and so on and after a quote by, for example, Holden it would say: "this is what he meant, this is what he was trying to say and this is what it symbolizes". Que?! That type of website; isn't that just the typical website that Holden would think phony?!
Gosh.

Okay, on to "1984"...
